The Bible

The Bible

So to kick start this week’s Blog I have a question for you?

What are the ten top selling books of all time? What would you put on your list?

Did you know that although it is impossible to obtain exact figures, there is little doubt that the Bible is the world’s best-selling and most widely distributed book? A recent survey by the Bible Society concluded that around 2.5 billion copies were printed between 1815 and 1975, but more recent estimates put the number at more than 5 billion. Wow!

By the end of 1995, combined global sales of Today’s English Version (Good News) New Testament and Bible (copyright for which is held by the Bible Societies) exceeded 17.75 million copies, and the whole Bible had been translated into 349 languages. In fact 2,123 languages have at least one book of the Bible in that language. Surely that is in itself a good reason to find out more about The Bible?

So below are a number of fab resources to help you do just that, but I want to start with one of my favourite verses ever.

It means what it says-God’s word is a lamp to our feet, a light that shines on our path-it shows us the direction we need to take, in both the small and big things of life.

The Bible is full of instruction, encouragement and help. Most of all, it is full of God’s word and so surely it’s a good idea to find out what God has to say? Another reason to read it! God also makes it personal. He will speak to you through the Bible in a way that no-one else can: by the power of the Holy Spirit.

THE BIBLE PROJECT is an amazing resource. This is an introduction to it, but it has lots of info on all the books in the Bible. I’ve included one on probably my favourite book of The Bible, Psalms.

Actually, I’ve got lots of favourite books of THE BIBLE!

Another thing you need to consider when reading the BIBLE, even when you don’t understand it, is that God’s word never changes. Culture changes, society changes, people change, but the truth of God’s word remains the same-forever. And that includes personal promises God has spoken over your life.

HERE’S FIVE REASONS WHY EVERY TEEN SHOULD READ THE BIBLE

WHY YOU SHOULD READ THE BIBLE FOR YOURSELF

Wow that’s a pretty direct statement-but true!

Maybe you need to start reading or studying it for the first time? Here are some good resources to help you:
