The Love of God

The Love of God

Just like FAITH the Bible has a lot to say about LOVE. Did you know that in the NIV translation there are 686 verses with the word LOVE in them? The following is one of the most famous verses about love, namely God’s LOVE.

Let’s just stop there a minute-God loved YOU so much that he gave his only son Jesus to die for you-so that you could live and have eternal life. Isn’t that amazing? Let’s explore God’s love further through an acrostic.

L-Like

How many times a day do you use the word LOVE? We tend to say we love things a bit too easily and quickly in today’s culture. How familiar are these phrases?

I love watching Netflix, I’d love to go to Disneyland, I love playing on my xbox etc.

One phrase I have used a fair bit is I love chocolatejust like the kids in this clip!

What I should really be saying is I like chocolate-love is a completely different thing according to the bible. This next clip is taken from 1 Corinthians 13–it’s called The Love Chapter and is one of the most famous passages of the bible-I’ve been trying to learn this: because it tells us what love actually is.

O-Obedience

When we readi The Love Chapter we can see that LOVE has nothing to do with feelings. It’s a choice. And so it’s linked to our OBEDIENCE. We don’t LOVE based on our emotions, because our emotions or feelings change with our mood. We love because God loved us and expects us to do the same. The two most important commandments in the bible are related to love. Here’s the first:

V-Voice

Here’s the second:

You might be thinking what has the word VOICE got to do with loving your neighbour as yourself? Everything. Firstly when God is speaking about our neighbours he doesn’t just mean the people who live next door to us. He means everybody. And when we start to show love towards others, through our words and actions, we are demonstrating the Love of God to both the church and the world. This is giving not only us a voice, but it’s also giving Jesus a voice because His spirit lives in us.

E- Endless

Here’s another amazing fact about God’s LOVE-it’s endless.

No matter what mistakes we make, or how we feel about ourselves, what other people might say or do to us, GOD’S NEVER STOPS LOVING US-IT’S ENDLESS.

These following lyrics are about God’s love for us from the song Reckless Love by Cory Ashbury.

Here’s a live version from the Passion Tour which is for young people.

Before I introduce this week’s TEAM TALK I’d like to pause on one more thought-God doesn’t just show love- HE IS LOVE. That takes it to a whole other level.

Right then, our Team Talk presenter this week is…-Nic! Enjoy the sea view!

As we approach the summer holidays think about how you can show more love to others-that’s kind of what sharing the Gospel is and the Gospel simply means Good News.

But first of all discover God’s love for you in a deeper way-you can’t give love if you don’t know how much you are loved. Pray and ask God to show you.

Cos’ when you know how much you are loved, you love yourself.

And when you love yourself you can love others much more effectively!

It’s kind-of like a circle!

Have a great everyone. Have a great summer holiday. Yay!!
