27 Nov The Purpose Driven Life
This week’s blog is inspired by a wonderful Christian book written a number of years ago by a man called Rick Warren. It became an international bestseller and has sold millions of copies worldwide. It’s called The Purpose Driven Life.
Rick asks questions that can help us all, especially when thinking about the future. Decisions made today, shape what happens tomorrow. Firstly, he says it’s really important to be aware of the following.
IDENTITY-Who we are and how God has made us-we all have special gifts and talents.
PURPOSE-Why we’re here and what where supposed to do
TIMING-When we’re supposed to do it.
I want to focus on PURPOSE so I guess we can look at the others more in another blog!
When it comes to PURPOSE, Rick refers to five areas of our lives that are really important to invest in-whatever your age. I think I agree with him. So let’s look at them.
1. WORSHIP – GOD WANTS ME TO CENTRE MY LIFE AROUND HIM
So enjoy God’s love and worship him back.
2. FELLOWSHIP – GOD WANTS ME TO LEARN TO LOVE HIS FAMILY
Enjoy God’s family-that’s his church. It’s important to be part of a local church-even online. Also God has wired us in such a way that we need relationships. We can’t do this journey alone.
3. DISCIPLESHIP – GOD WANTS ME TO BE A LIFE LONG LEARNER
When we become Christians, we’re like spiritual babies but God wants us to mature. Just like you grow up naturally and become young men and women, God requires us to grow up spiritually. How can you do this?
4. MINISTRY – GOD WANTS ME TO CONTRIBUTE SOMETHING BACK
He doesn’t want you to live here on earth just to live for yourself-God = wants you to help others, using your talents, time and gifts.
We all have special abilities-to help each other.
What talents has God given you? It’s important to find out because you have been shaped with theses talents for a purpose.
Interestingly, did you know that in the Bible, Ministry and Service are linked to the same word?
5. WITNESSING – GOD WANTS ME TO TELL OTHERS ABOUT HIS LOVE
One of the last things that Jesus told us to do when he was here on the earth, was to share the Good News about what He has done for you and the world. That’s called witnessing, giving an account of something.
A witness doesn’t try and persuade and convince, like a lawyer does. As witnesses we just share our own personal experiences of God-our testimonies of God’s goodness. Let your light shine as they say!
Over the next few weeks SONG OF THE BLOG will feature tracks from Hillsong Young and Free’s latest album ALL OF MY BEST FRIENDS-this links in with loving God’s family-fellowship. This week’s track is:
And the documentary about the making of the album is a perfect example of how digital technology can draw us closer to God. We started it last week-here’s the next installment.
