Wake up to His Love

Wake up to His Love

Wake up to His Love
When I consider my Christian walk, the one thing above all else that has kept me going is that I continually cultivate my love relationship with Jesus. When I am in love with Him I can say it is truly easy to obey Him and His word, love others and make huge sacrifices.

Should we become like the Ephesian Church, who had abandoned the love they had at first, our walk becomes dry and religious with the consequence that many people fall away. All around us there are people who encountered Jesus, would never deny Him but lead a life outside His purposes and His Church. The challenge for all Christians is that we wake up to His love.
If I am going to wake up to His love I need revelation from His word on what He has done for me and how much He loves me. This revelation however, is to lead me to the place where I open my heart fully to the love of God and I make a heartfelt decision to love Him with all my heart, soul and mind. The word Love is found in the New Testament a total of 235 times. In John’s gospel it appears 39 times and in John’s first epistle it appears 21 times. As I have started my journey to become more aware of the love of Jesus I have started in the Gospels and I have invited the Holy Spirit to reveal this love to me through the pages of the New Testament.

The Apostle Paul could say “For the love of Christ controls us”. There is just something about experiencing the love of Christ that causes us to want to lay down our lives for others. Jesus said that “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” In seeking to build a house of love we are actually seeking to see the words of Jesus become flesh here in Bridgend. We are commanded to love one another just as Christ has loved us. In order to do this we need to experience the love of Christ for ourselves so that we will be able to love like Christ loves. The Church in Wales is known for a lot of things but love is not at the top of the list. As we wake up to his love we will become people who fulfil the commandment of Jesus in John 13 to simply love one another.
Over the last couple of months I have been reading about Jesus and the more I read the more I fall in love with Him. I want to encourage you to make the decision to awaken the love that you have for your saviour until it becomes at the forefront of your thinking not just in the background.
If you really want to do this you will need to set time aside to do four things;
1) Read about Jesus within the pages of the New Testament
2) Meditate on the things He has done both for you and for the people He touched in the Bible
3) Start to tell Jesus that you love Him
4) Worship Him through song
“My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away,” Song of Solomon 2 v 10
The call for all of us is to come away so that we can spend time with our beloved. As I have woken up to His love my whole world has changed and as you wake up to His love yours will too. Let us arise and come away with Jesus.
Alex
